Application Controls Engineer
Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico · Field Applications / Deployment · Full-time
ABOUT OVERVIEW.AI
Overview.ai is bringing the cutting edge of AI computer vision to manufacturing, solving inspection problems that were previously not solvable with traditional machine vision. We're a full-stack company: we deploy GPU-powered cameras on production lines, run inference on the edge, and operate a platform that supports large fleets of devices deployed across the world.
We're growing extremely fast. Our customers love the product because it works: high accuracy, fast deployment, and an operator-friendly experience that makes real factory rollouts possible, not just pilots.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are putting an engineer on the ground in Mexicali to support a major manufacturing customer directly. This is a hands-on field role: you will install our cameras, integrate them with existing PLCs and controls, and keep vision systems running under live production constraints. Because you are local, you are the technical face of Overview at the plant, not a remote resource who flies in when something breaks. This is a strong role for a controls, mechatronics, or electrical engineer with a few years of automation experience who wants to move into AI vision systems.
WHY THIS ROLE IS EXCITING
- Your work keeps production lines running. You will see the impact of what you build the same day you build it.
- You will grow across three stacks at once: industrial controls, machine vision, and AI systems in production.
- High ownership from day one. You own the technical execution at your site end to end, with minimal bureaucracy.
- Direct line to the product team. The constraints you hit on the floor shape what we build next.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- System installation: Physically install Overview cameras, lighting, and supporting hardware on production lines and validate the setup.
- PLC integration: Configure our systems to work with existing PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, Beckhoff), map I/O, and set up communication protocols.
- On-site troubleshooting: Diagnose connector, continuity, signal timing, encoder feedback, and I/O issues in live production without taking lines down.
- Production validation: Confirm speed, accuracy, and reliability on real lines, and tune for lighting, vibration, and material variation.
- Customer enablement: Train operators, maintenance, and engineers on system operation and first-line troubleshooting.
- Deployment support: Be the technical point of contact through installation, ramp-up, and the first weeks of production operation.
- Documentation: Write configuration records and setup guides the customer's team can actually use.
- Product feedback: Feed real-world constraints and failure modes back to engineering.
WHO YOU ARE
Required
- 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, with a background in controls, mechatronics, or electrical engineering.
- Direct experience with PLC systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or similar): configuring I/O, reading documentation, and troubleshooting connectivity. Comfortable with ladder logic or structured text.
- Experience installing, configuring, or integrating hardware on live production equipment without breaking existing controls.
- Able to troubleshoot electrical and hardware problems on-site with a multimeter, oscilloscope, or continuity tester, with a working understanding of voltage, current, and signal integrity.
- Time on a manufacturing floor and an understanding of downtime pressure and production constraints.
- Based in Mexicali or willing to relocate there, and able to work to customer shift schedules and production priorities.
- Professional working proficiency in English and Spanish, since you will work with the local plant team and with Overview engineering.
Strong Preferences
- Experience with vision systems or industrial cameras, including setup, focus, and lighting.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, serial).
- Experience training operators and engineers on new systems.
- Comfort working independently and making technical calls in the field without waiting for backup.
- Experience with specific platforms: Allen Bradley CompactLogix/ControlLogix, Siemens S7-1200/S7-1500.
WHY OVERVIEW.AI
- Extreme growth and real-world impact: We're not building demos. We're deploying AI systems on real production lines, at scale.
- Talent density: You'll work with world-class engineers and operators across AI, embedded systems, and enterprise deployment.
- Front-row seat to the AI manufacturing wave: One of the biggest transformations happening in industry right now.
- Ownership: Your work directly changes the trajectory of the company.
- Global exposure: You'll work with the most advanced customers and factories in the world.
