Position Summary
The General Superintendent is responsible for providing overall field leadership, coordination, and execution of construction projects from mobilization through completion. This position oversees field operations, subcontractors, manpower, scheduling, safety, quality, and coordination with project management and the client.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading large-scale commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction projects and understands the integration of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS). This role requires a strong field leader who can coordinate multiple trades and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for daily field construction operations.
- Manage and coordinate Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, subcontractors, and trade partners.
- Develop and maintain project execution plans, manpower plans, and short- and long-term schedules.
- Coordinate construction activities across multiple trades to ensure efficient sequencing and minimize conflicts.
- Partner closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, engineers, owners, and subcontractors to drive project progress.
- Lead daily and weekly coordination meetings and communicate project priorities to field teams.
- Monitor project progress against schedule and identify potential delays, conflicts, and resource constraints.
- Coordinate equipment, materials, manpower, and subcontractor resources to maintain project momentum.
- Ensure work is installed in accordance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable codes.
- Oversee quality control activities and ensure deficiencies are identified, documented, and corrected promptly.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and ensure all work is performed in accordance with company and project safety requirements.
- Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation for field impacts and constructability.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
- Work closely with commissioning teams to support functional testing and project turnover.
- Coordinate system integration and testing activities involving BMS, EPMS, controls, electrical, mechanical, and other building systems.
- Understand the relationship between BMS and EPMS systems and their role in monitoring and controlling critical building infrastructure.
- Coordinate with controls contractors, electrical contractors, commissioning agents, and owner representatives to ensure BMS/EPMS installation and integration requirements are met.
- Review BMS/EPMS points lists, sequences of operation, system interfaces, and testing requirements as they relate to field installation and commissioning.
- Assist with troubleshooting system integration issues and coordinate resolution between trades, vendors, and commissioning teams.
- Ensure BMS/EPMS-related equipment, controls, sensors, meters, communication networks, and associated infrastructure are installed according to project requirements.
- Maintain strong communication with clients and project stakeholders regarding field progress, challenges, and milestones.
- Participate in project planning, constructability reviews, and schedule development.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce rework, and increase project efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation of field activities, progress, manpower, inspections, and project issues.
- Support project closeout, punch list completion, commissioning, and turnover.
- Travel to project sites as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive construction experience, with significant experience in field supervision.
- 5+ years of experience in a Superintendent or General Superintendent role preferred.
- Experience leading large-scale commercial, industrial, data center, healthcare, semiconductor, or other mission-critical construction projects preferred.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple construction trades and subcontractors.
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling, project documentation, quality control, and safety requirements.
- Experience with BMS, EPMS, building controls, electrical monitoring, or mission-critical systems strongly preferred.
- Understanding of commissioning processes and integrated systems testing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, constructability, and field coordination.
- Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- OSHA 30-hour certification preferred; additional safety certifications are a plus.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours as required by project demands.
