Sr. Systems Engineer (Onsite in Wilsonville, OR)
Summary
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Portland, OR (PDX). In this role, you will lead the development, validation, and integration of cutting-edge automated laboratory instrumentation and bioprocess technologies. Working at the intersection of hardware, software, and biology, you will design automated workflows, write custom integration scripts, and connect robotic systems with enterprise LIMS infrastructure to drive operational excellence and product quality under ISO 13485 standards.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, validate, and release new processes and technologies to achieve cost-effectiveness and improved product quality
- Develop and test protocols, scripts, and systems to automate certain bioprocesses
- Operation and maintenance of a range of scientific instruments and tools with a focus on laboratory automation systems and cross-integration systems
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams in troubleshooting and resolving issues concerning equipment and systems
- Prepare and participate in documentation, knowledge transfer, and training activities
- Follow regulatory and ISO 13485 requirements
What You’ll Bring
- Ph.D. or MS with 3 years, BS with 5 years of related experience in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Experience in developing automated instrumentation for bioprocesses
- Experience with DoE for testing and troubleshooting of certain processes
- Experience in designing and writing scripts (C#, Python, etc) using control software or dynamic scheduling software native to laboratory automation systems and cross-integration systems
- Experience with sample tracking software and developed interfaces between robotic instrumentation and LIMS systems (MES/Maestro, Twist build)
- Excellent scientific computation and data analysis capabilities
- Hands-on skills to assemble and maintain hardware
- Experience with biological instrumentation for liquid transfer, PCR, cell-based cloning, DNA extraction, and purification is desirable
- Working collaboratively with other functional groups
- Excellent communication and writing skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
